MY INSPIRING WOMEN

In approaching a Biblical theme, whether human, animal or natural elements, I first of all must feel a sense of identification with the characters. I want to deposit their spirit, trouble, dilemmas and passion – all of it – successfully into my work.
In my tapestry series Women in the Bible, I feel a deep connection with each story. Every one of these women are special – whether queen or plebeian, pure or evil, each of their lives are shown quite clearly. These powerful biblical stories can be read as a reflection of humanity, thereby informing my work and making my task easy.
As a textile Artist my goal is to use the particular weaving method and materials which will bring to life the fascinating ancient stories. The women of the Bible are an inspiration and food for my artistic hunger.
Even a single verse (But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt’ Genesis 19:26) may bring to life a character, such as Lot’s Wife, making her interesting enough to inspire me to dedicate and entire tapestry to her.
It is always a challenge for me to achieve the necessary balance between a design and to finally capture the thoughts, motivations and sensitivities of Women in the Bible.
I am always searching for the magic that will grant me an original interpretation.
My latest work in this series is called Rape in the Bible. Such a challenging and difficult subject obliges me to pause and confine my approach to the thread that will respect this powerful subject. Relevant throughout the ages, this particular  tapestry triptych portrays the stories of Dina, Tamar together with a connecting piece I chose from the story of the daughters of Shiloh (“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” Judges 21:25).

I am hopeful that those who view this work will find in it the path to reflection on a topic so relevant to our modern world.
