MIRIAM is considered a prophetess, a woman of great worth, and has been portrayed both in Christian and Jewish art throughout the ages. Miriam resembles other heroines such as Ruth, Esther, and Judith—they are popular and often played critical roles in the destiny of their people.
In my abstract depiction of the Biblical scene—a scene of mayhem, where horses and riders have been thrown into the sea—the characters are interlaced with the landscape, both sharing the dance of pure joy and gratitude. Miriam and the women join in a swirling dervish of exaltation.
