Birth

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying: In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall be a solemn rest unto you, a memorial proclaimed with the blast of horns, a holy convocation

Leviticus 23:24

And Nehemiah…said unto all the people: ‘This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep…Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord; neither be ye grieved; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.’

Nehemiah 8:9-10

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, marks the creation of the world. While it is solemn—a time to contemplate our goals and responsibilities, those attained and those we have yet to realize—it is also a celebration of divine creation, of the gift and promise of birth.
Designing this tapestry, I was inspired to use both color and form to reflect the birth process. The colors progress one to another, creating a feeling of growth and completeness.
