The Dove In The Bible

As always, the Bible serves as my endless source of inspiration. Initially, I could only imagine the traditional figure of the dove we know as “Noah’s dove.”

.

When I turned to the sacred writings looking for that image, I found that the dove appears in the Bible many times, each time showing different and interesting aspects.

.

She is sometimes a strong and cold character, infuriated and dreaming to escape from war and enemies. The dove is also portrayed as weak and wailing pitifully against evil, while emerging hopefully from darkness through flashes of light. Lastly, she represents the sons and daughters of the Chosen People returning happily to their land, like the dove to her nest.

.

All those images drove me to create the Dove series of designs for tapestries where, as in the rest of my works, my goal is to capture the drama of the Biblical scene.

.

For me the dove serves as a symbol of peace–a rejection of violence and war–crying out for the peace we all dream about and seek.
