Several years ago, I started asking myself about the Bibles of other religions. What do they believe? How do they depict the creation of the world? All those thoughts were running through my mind when I found a book containing four ancient cosmograms (a two-dimensional geometric figure that represents a cosmology, or an understanding of the universe) based on creation stories which showed me the pictorial answer to my question. The creation stories of various faiths are both similar to and different from each other. I decided to explore this through tapestry.
Following the lines of those structured drawings, I fashioned four tapestries portraying the creation of the world as conceived by the religions of Japan, India, Egypt, and Christianity.
